President's Letter

September 1, 2009

Dear Presidents, Panhellenic Delegates and Alternate Delegates,

As the summer draws to a close, it’s time to begin preparing for the upcoming year of meetings, events, and activities with the Phoenix Panhellenic Association. Welcome back to one of the best volunteer groups in the valley! To our new delegates and alternate delegates this year, I formally welcome you to the Phoenix Panhellenic Association. I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you. Please be sure to bring your group’s PPA binder to each monthly meeting. You should have received this binder from the previous delegate.

I am pleased to introduce your Executive Board for the 2009-2010 year:
President: Audrey Stewart Alpha Omicron Pi
Vice President: Kelly Friedlander Zeta Tau Alpha
Treasurer: Amy Shaw Alpha Gamma Delta
Secretary: Jayann Fordon Alpha Delta Pi

Our first meeting will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 14th. We have many items to discuss, so I am encouraging all delegates to be present. As with all of our meetings, if the delegate is unable to attend, the alternate delegate should be present to represent the sorority’s alumnae group. Please keep in mind the bylaws in regards to attendance:

Standing Rule #9 - An inquiry will be made to any member fraternity having three (3) absences in a fiscal year.
Standing Rule #11 - An Active Member Fraternity in good standing attends at least six (6) of the nine (9) meetings or loses the privilege of participating in the Woman of the Year Award and the Continuing Education Scholarship Program.

We will hold all monthly meetings at the PERA Club, One East Continental Drive, Tempe (map). All meetings are held in Big Horn Terrace (BHT on the map) with the exception of the May Awards Dinner. The dates of our meetings are as follows:
September 14 - 7:00 PM - First meeting of 2009-2010
October 5 - 7:00 PM
November 2 - 7:00 PM - Dues deadline November 15, 2009
December 7 - 7:00 PM - Celebration for Charity -
January 11 - 7:00 PM
February 1 - 7:00 PM
March 8 - 7:00 PM - Alumnae Presidents’ Roundtable Meeting
April 5 - 7:00 PM
May 3 - 6:30 PM - Awards Dinner & Installation of Officers

Each delegate has been assigned to one of our standing committees. Being part of that committee requires the delegate to attend meetings for that committee, as well as fully participate in the activities of that committee. At the first meeting, each chairwoman will give a brief overview of her committee and key dates of items that need to be accomplished. The four committees for 2009-2010 are Outreach, Scholarship, WM Phoenix Open and Woman of the Year.

Your group’s Treasurer will be receiving a Dues Payment sheet from the Phoenix Panhellenic Treasurer, Amy Shaw. The annual dues are based upon your group’s dues paying membership roster for the preceding calendar year. For 2009-2010, dues are based on membership reported as of December 31, 2008. The dues payment deadline is Monday, November 16, 2009. All questions concerning dues should be directed to Amy Shaw, PPA Treasurer.

I would like to call your attention to our main fundraiser for the year, the WM Phoenix Open. Each year, Phoenix Panhellenic Association provides more than 1,000 volunteers for the WM Phoenix Open. In return for our efforts, the Thunderbird Association provides us with a sizable donation, which we, in turn, give as scholarships the following year. I am asking for your help in recruiting volunteers this year through your alumnae groups, co-workers, friends, family, etc. Sign-up forms and registration information will be available shortly, so keep checking this website. Please help us make this year the best ever!

Phoenix Panhellenic Association’s Annual Awards Dinner in May honors those scholarship recipients, both Collegiate and Continuing Education winners, as well as our own Woman of the Year. It’s up to you to advertise and discuss these great opportunities with the women of your alumnae group. Please encourage members of your sorority to apply for Continuing Education and Collegiate Scholarships and the Woman of the Year Award.

I feel incredibly honored to be your president for the 2009-2010 year. I deeply appreciate the commitment each of you makes to Greek Life and the Phoenix Panhellenic Association. I am looking forward to a productive, successful, and fun year! Please contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Sincerely,

Audrey Stewart
Phoenix Panhellenic President 2009-2010
Alpha Omicron Pi
