Sorority Recruitment Information

National collegiate sororities for women invite all women to participate in Membership Recruitment for new members either through organized events or individual contacts.

Formal sorority recruitment is a process to introduce prospective sorority women to the members of each chapter on campus. Traditionally, colleges conduct formal recruitment in the fall, but you should contact the campus where you will be attending school for further information.

Registering for Formal Recruitment

In order to participate in formal sorority recruitment, you must register with the Greek Life or Panhellenic office on your university's campus. Most universities make sorority recruitment information available during college orientation sessions, and recruitment forms are usually included in your orientation packet. However, if you do not receive information by mid-July, we suggest you contact your university's Greek Life or Panhellenic office. Links to Greek Life websites at Arizona universities are the following:

Each college/university has a registration deadline. Complete and submit recruitment registration forms and information as soon as possible.

Recommendations

If you wish to have a more detailed introduction to each sorority on campus, contact the Central File Committee of the Phoenix Alumnae Panhellenic Association, and we will provide (mail) a list of Panhellenic alumnae membership chairmen who can write a recommendation letter for you to their sorority chapter on that campus.

A recommendation is a letter from a former sorority member or someone who knows you and your activities and academic achievements. A sorority member will have a form from her sorority that she will use for the recommendation. The Personal Information Form you complete will help the membership chairman write the recommendation.

Some university panhellenics encourage you to have recommendations and some do not require them at all. Contact the college/university you will attend for their policy on recommendations.

Legacies are often given special consideration by the chapter of the relative's sorority. This does not guarantee membership in that sorority. At times there are more legacies entering Rush/Recruitment than a college chapter has membership openings. Legacies must meet the same qualification standards that non-legacies meet, but if you are a legacy to any sororities, you should list them on your resume.

The Phoenix Alumnae Panhellenic Association provides a Personal Information form you can complete to give to each membership chairman who will be writing a recommendation letter for you.

To obtain recommendations through the Phoenix Alumnae Panhellenic Association:

  1. Contact the Central File Committee for a list of alumnae membership chairmen who can write recommendation letters for you. to their respective sorority chapters.
